About

Count every note. Keep every take.

Peak Notes is a browser studio for pianists — capture over USB MIDI or your computer keyboard, watch a live counter built for practice and screen recording, then export a Standard MIDI File, a silent counter video, or drop the take onto a glowing visualizer. Your history stays on this device.

Two ways to play

Plug in a MIDI instrument such as the Yamaha P-145BT and it is detected automatically — it always plays and records. The source toggle decides whether the computer keyboard is also live, so switch to MIDI Device when you want typing to stay silent. Sustain pedal (CC64) keeps notes ringing under the damper.

Accurate export

Sessions are written as SMF Format 1 at 480 PPQN with a dedicated tempo track. Held notes are closed automatically and leading silence is trimmed so the roll starts on your first note.

Built for capture

A large live counter, notes per second, peak NPS, elapsed time, and a Focus view sized for the room. Pause preserves silence in the timeline. Dark and light themes are included.

Your mapping

The QWERTY layout follows the familiar Virtual Piano arrangement, and every key can be rebound from the settings panel. Preferences persist between sessions.

Keyboard layout

The home row plays white keys left to right starting at Middle C, and the row above holds the black keys in their natural gaps.

Requirements

Web MIDI needs a Chromium-based browser such as Chrome or Edge, served over localhost or HTTPS. Computer-keyboard input and audio work everywhere. Piano, Rhodes, harpsichord, and guitar samples come from the Musyng Kite soundfont via midi-js-soundfonts (CC BY-SA 3.0).
